Sunday & Valentines

It's time.
Once again.
For family Valentine Pictures.
I think this is the latest we have ever done them.
Valentines day is only two weeks away!
Here is last years picture:
I would post this year's pictures but i wouldn't want to ruin the
anticipated surprise.
I will give something away though.
This years picture doesn't have 3 boys in matching sweatshirts.
Now that is a darn shame.
Speaking of the word darn,
Mom said it's orginating word while taking our picture.
Spencer was personally offended.
I laughed.

Good times with the Fam.

Today Mom & I started off the day with 1.5 hour yoga session.
It was hard.
But good
Then we went to see "When in Rome."
Cheesy.
But good.
We rounded off our afternoon with Cafe Rio.
As always it was good.
(Nothing like watching mom get sauce everywhere but her salad.)
Now I am trying to get better at Mario Kart on Wii.
Ashley become good at video games?
Probably not going to happen.
But i love my family.
They are good to me.

Les Miserables

My Mom, Mckay, & I went to see Les Miserables at PG High School today.
(so did Darren & Kevin but they are not pictured)
Les Mis was incredible.
I was so amazed by every cast member.
They were all so talented, so dedicated & so perfect for their roles.
It brought mom to tears.
She thinks it was as good if not better than Tuachan's production.
I would have to agree.
BRAVO PG.

Nerd Hour Power

Tonight's outfit installment:
Nerd Power
But just for the hour.
Don't we look sick... with retainers & all?

Snow College+Snow= UNhappy Ashley.

I looked out my door & what did I see?

(I wish it would have been "popcorn" popping on the apricot tree
Anyway, this was my reaction.

As you can see i was not happy.
I like to look at the snow from my window.
Not walk in it across campus slipping and sliding along the way.
Boo on winter.
But, on the plus side my least favorite month is almost over!

Taco salad & a blast from the past.

Today we ate taco salad,

And then we dressed up in 70's attire.

And headed to yoga.
Kathy said she was quote on quote: "impressed" & felt "left out."
We will have to text Kath our plans next time.

SUCCESS!

Today I received the best news.

I got a 95% on my first college mathematics test!!!!
P.S. why didn't one of my roommates warn me before I went out the door and say:
"Ashley, you look like a pirate."
Warnings like that would have been much appreciated.

Dinner with a College Family.

Kelsey & I hosted a family dinner today.

Here is the mottly crew. Clockwise from the left: Kelsey, Kevin Frank, Mckenzie Hatch, Darren Walker, & I.
We enjoyed seasoned chicken, Au gratin, cut up apples & oranges, and Parmesan bread.
It was delicious.
And then we watched a movie.
What a delightful Sunday evening.

Freezer Burn.

Every time I open the freezer & see Natalya's milk it makes me laugh. (yes, that is MILK, NOT orange juice..) I will laugh so hard if that bad boy explodes. She better start defrosting that milk weeks before she wants to use it..

I love my friends.

This evening my friends will be coming down to Ephraim to see Darren & I.
Not much time to chat because they are almost here.
Gotta love Skyler Anderson, Trevor Norton, Sean McClellan, Jared Reynolds & of course the infamous Kayloni Hadley.
Needless to say tonight will be a party.
Swimming & watching some movie is on the agenda.
Can't wait guys.

Yoga Themes.

Today a brilliant idea was born within A8.
Have a theme every time Tuesday & Thursday rolls around.
A theme that Kelsey & I can both agree on.
Something that will make us stand out from the regular "Yogie".
Today's theme:
"All Walks of Life."

As you can see, we have some nice things going on here that emulate the named theme.
I don't know which i like more: Kelsey's rain boots or my greek moccasins.
I decided to represent society's finest by wearing my chandelier earrings.
Kelsey remembered the Native American's while wearing her infamous Sacajawea shirt.
STAY TUNED FOR MANY GREAT OUTFITS TO COME.

Who could resist a photo shoot with such flamboyant attire?

I miss you Summer

Before i divulge into some homework, here is today's random thought.

When I walked outside today & saw the snow covering all the earth it made me miss summer time. Man oh man those were carefree days. Working from 9-3 & then playing all night. Summer of 09 was the best. Here are some pictures that capture some of my favorite memories.

Summer please reveal your warmth & come back soon. I am already making plans as to what to do with you.

Color Code

Interpersonal Communications. Love that class. Today we learned all about the Color Code. Seriously I think it changed my life a little bit. I am a yellow followed very closely by red.(Uh-OH.) I think I was dominantly yellow through high school (life of the party) but as I am entering adulthood I am evolving more and more into the red category. Anyway, it made me re-evaluate my relationships with others & why people are the way they are. My teacher described how certain colors relate with members of the same & opposite genders in different colors (hopefully that made sense). Maybe it will assist me in becoming more patient with my family, friends, and most of all-- my room mates.

Maybe it will help me understand why notes like this:

Have results like this:

Hmmm... and this is proceeding before it got even worse. Awesome. I'm sure glad I cleaned the apartment for an hour before I went home for the weekend. Hahaha whatever. I hope I can learn better patience if nothing else & tame the "red" within me.

P.s. Hugs are bigger than the traditional kiss.
P.P.S. This is Me & Kelsey's 4th attempt to make these. We finally had success.
P.P.P.S. No matter how safe you feel you are, I have learned to keep my door locked.

Happy MLK Day.

I would like to start this post by sending a quick shout out to my favorite African American Kayloni Hadley. I love this girl muchly & I hope this day has been a good one for her.

After sleeping over at Jacee's I was quite exhausted. My attempts at naps were quite unfulfilling & I was a beast to my family. (sorry about that...)

My evening did not improve when my dad told me I would be driving to Ephraim. Awesome. I love driving when my parentals are in shot-gun. Definitely in my top 3... NOT. I feel like I am being watched like a hawk & i stress out... especially after a certain $90 speeding ticket...

Since my Dad's choice and mine in music are on completely opposite sides of the spectrum it made for an interesting time. (I like practically anything that is topping the charts, he loves his obnoxious sports radio...) We both have to come halfway & listen to stuff we both hate, such as FM 100 & KOSY 106.5, thus agreeing to disagree.  Bleeding love, Breathe & hits from Chicago were prevalent on both stations & we both were both attempting to grin & bare it. Then my dad fell asleep, how convenient for him. By the time I realized he was sleeping we were out of range from MIX 107.9. Dang it.
Good ol Molly took me to the music building to sing "Only Hope." Haha. She's obsessed. I love it.
Now i am here in Ephraim ready to plunge into some homework. YAY. Thanks for your sacrifices Martin Luthe so i could have school off.

A Common Sunday

An all in all a Common Sunday as I am back home for MLK 3 day weekend. Sweet. No school is the best. I went to Singles Ward with Kayloni, Jacee & Kalee. We skipped out on Relief Society &then returned to hear the lesson in Sunday School.
I regret to inform that i was ornery with the family this afternoon--sorry but they were pushing my buttons & I reacted.
Dinner was delicious.
Home teachers were the usual.
Sleepover with Kay, Jace & Kenz tonight. Love it.

Back Home

Such a fun & eventful day-- Here is my top ten.
1. sleeping in!
2. Watching my mom on the spur of the moment take "3 inches" off Rachel's hair. You get what you pay for I guess.
3. Catching Rachel in a lie when she said she had a stomach ache & therefore couldn't go on "girls night." LIAR!!!
4. going to see leap year (loved it!) with mom & rachie (she on the other hand did not love it).
5. going to eat at wingers... mmmm... even if they did change their sticky fingers recipe..(why they felt the need to try and perfect perfection is beyond my comprehension.)
6. going to Jacee's to get ready for DISCO NIGHT at classic skating.
7. Celebrating Skyler's belated birthday at Classic Skating.
8. Watching people fall at Classic Skating.
9. Speeding round and round the rink with Kenz, Kay,& Jace.
10. At Katie's afterwords eating some Sherb with Sherm & realizing how awesome it is that even though all our friends have gone our separate ways we still (ALL 20+ of us that are still here) get together on a semi regular basis & have so much fun together.
I am so lucky to have such an awesome family & fun friends. love you guys.

Jace, Kenz, & I at Katie's House afterwords.

Life is great: live. love. laugh.

carless

It's so fun being homeless. Rather, i feel homeless because I am carless which i guess could translate into helpless. Anyway you look at it, I hate not having a car at college. It's the worst. Anyway, since I am practically homeless, definitely carless & ultimately helpless my dear mother Shell had to come pick me up from school today. I was done with school at 12:30, but Shell had to wait till a more convenient time to check Rachel out of school so she could come too. Some things never change.

Here is one of the conversations I had with dear Rachel today when she was at my apt.:
Rachel: "Hey Ashley, How old were you when you got a phone?"
Ashley:  " I think I was 14, why?"
Rachel: " Well i am 6 & I already have a phone"...(laughter erupts from her little body...)
Ashley: "umm Rachel, that phone doesn't even work."
Rachel: "I know but i got a phone sooner than you did"... (laughter begins again, harmonizing with my mothers from the front seat, thanks for nothing Shell...)

Sweet. Rachel knows how to push my buttons like no one else, & she is only 6. I still love her though, a lot.

Intro to Dance.

Anyone who knows me, knows that i am not coordinated & not a dancer. I signed up for Intro to dance this semester & I fear for my well being as well as my classmates if asked to do a jig or two in front of them. Hopefully the time shall never come when i have to show my lack of skills in the dancing department.
Our teacher has been MIA since the first day of class. We picked up a syllabus from some lady that says we won't have class for a week & learned we had to watch a movie entitled: "The Power of Dance." What a fascinating title... Am I right?

Here is my friend Heather & I "enjoying" the film in a library cubicle today. The looks on our faces are deceiving. We are bored out of our gords. But we suffered through the 58 minutes & even came out with a few good laughs. Male ballerina's are about the best...

P.S. I love Heather. This girl is my long lost twin hailing from Snowflake, Arizona. We both laugh loud & hard at the strangest things, love to sing, she has lengthy eyelashes that put mine to shame, we both hate animals & winter, & to top it all off we both drive the same year, model, & color of car (her's a Nissan, mine a Honda.) We decided we were destined to be friends.

beddy bye time.

These eyes are tired eyes.
Tired of trying to go to bed at a decent hour & failing every time.
Tired of trying to look in the fridge & make something yummy for dinner.
Tired of not having time to close their eyelids over them & enjoy a mid day naparoo. In case you missed it, I am tired today- & oh so much homework to do...already.
My hair was the bane of my existence today. I woke up with the plan to curl it. As you can see that is exactly what I did. It didn't take too long considering I had showered the night before. As I was a curlin & a wirlin my brain had one of those awful ah-ha! moments. I had signed up for Institute at 9:30 a.m. What time did my cellular say it was? 9:22. And i still had the top layer of hair to go. Uh-Oh. No in class spiritual enlightenment for me today. Maybe I'll make it next time. Maybe the smile in that picture is deceiving. Maybe not.

Writer's block.

So usually writing comes easy for me. Telling & occasionally acting out a story is one of my favorite things to do. But I am working on two separate papers right now & I have hit a wall. So now I am listening to music trying to get the ideas flowing.

The first paper is for my English class. A complete rough draft is due Friday. It is supposed to be a descriptive paper WITHOUT telling a story. Umm pardon me sir? Not a story? And just focus on one subject for 5 pages? You have got to be joking me. I need ideas... What can I write about (A person, place, or thing) that I can describe for five pages.

The second paper is for Intro to Dance. Yep. Coordinated me is taking Intro to Dance. This alone should be interesting. Our first paper is supposed to be entitled "What is Dance to Me?" Dumb. Hopefully this teacher isn't a lame brain. But we can't write about why we dance or why we love it. (I guess we are supposed to define it? Where is Mr. Webster?...) So my first sentence says: "Dance is an outward expression of inner feelings." Good one liner right? Minor set back though... I used all my brain cells on that one sentence.

Sundays

I don't know which I hate more. Getting up in the morning or getting ready for bed.at night. I think ultimately getting ready for bed is the worst just because it takes me forever--but getting out of bed every morning feels like waking from the dead. I look the part & I am told I most surely act the part. Hence why my mom knew to wake me & then leave the room (quickly) during high school. So I am sure it will surprise no one when i say 9:30 church is my sworn enemy. But there is nothing sweeter then coming home after church & taking a long winters nap. Oh the sweet, quiet, & peaceful serenity. I wouldn't know about that today though. The whole Jensen extended family is here (at least it's not dinner time this time) and running rampant around our apartment. In fact one of Clarissa's nephews came & opened the door. After he ran a few laps around my room like a lunatic (thanks for waking me up buddy boy..)I stood up & locked the door. Now it is time for me to close my eyes to the sounds of Saltwater Room.

OH and P.S.-- Chuck starts tonight! Yay.
Here is a picture of the dinner Kelsey, Natalya, Ana & I partook of... it was absolutely delicious. Seasoned Chicken, cheesy potatoes, steamed broccoli & carrots, crescent rolls & yes i even had a capri sun to round off the whole meal. YUMMY. I love having dinner with the roomies.

pet peeves.

This is going to sound probably a little complainy. I need to vent somewhere though... *I hate it when there are dishes in the sink when we have a dishwasher right next to the sink. *I hate it when there are crumbs on the stove. *I hate it when there is hair everywhere. *I hate seeing those dang awkwardly huge dishes take up our whole dishwasher & the sink. *I hate when people open a can of something in the fridge & leave it there.. gross. *I hate hair in the bathtub or on the shower walls. (sorry w/ the hair thing again...) ****disclaimer: not that i have ever experienced any of these, haha. But i do love it when i have a fun Saturday night. Starting the evening out by going to see Blindside with friends (for free), making and eating spaghetti & rounding the night off with watching Miss Congeniality. In short it was a success.

Friday Night

First Friday night back in Ephraim. What's a girl to do? Luckily there were lots of parties going on... and even an Institute Dance. Uh-oh. We'll skip the dance... however the people watching that could take place is oh so tempting. So many choices...so little time.

Kelsey & I started the night off by going to our local Walmart and purchasing a few necessities. We had a freschetta pizza for dinner and even made pretzels with hugs on them. Unfortunately they burned but they still t
asted pretty good anyway. (our oven is crap & cooks things ever so quickly but not necessarily thoroughly...)

We played with friends in activities that included ping pong, laughing, and Carli came home & returned to us. Here's Carli:
Carli & Kelsey are best friends. Carli was our roommate first semester, but then Carli married her other best friend in December. And now she no longer lives with us. It's sad. But we were happy to have her leave her BF aka husband David at home for one night & come have a sleepover with us back on the homestretch aka A8. Baby Mama, spinning as many times as possible, & working on sounding like Gorilla's were among tonight's festivities. We miss you Carli Warli.

Scriptures

For Christmas I asked my parents for some new scriptures. My previous ones were the scriptures i had received when I was baptized at the ripe old age of 8. Since I am planning on serving a mission in 2012, I thought it would be good to get some new scrips and get marking them. My Christmas wish was granted and I received blue ones complete with a perfectly sized carrying case. Thanks mom & dad. I love them. There is just something about having brand new scriptures & being able to mark what I want to on their brand new crisp sheets. Kelsey and I had a goal to be in bed by 10:00. Well 11:00 rolled around and we decided we will try & read our scriptures for 20 minutes rather than just 10. Hopefully we can keep it going... and get better at going to bed earlier. We decided to take baby steps considering we ended up talking until midnight anyway.

A Visit & Glozell

What better way to toast to the 2nd day of school then to have friends come and visit me?! YAY. It was so fun. Kayloni & Amelia arrived around 9. They called me in hushed, scarred tones. They informed me that they had hit a deer and were somewhere on the highway. I was in Darren's apartment and started hyperventilating a little bit. They were ever so convincing! Well then Kayloni starts to laugh and tell me that they are actually in Snow Garden's parking lot. Funny...HA....HA....NOT! I threatened to kill them and then hung up the phone. Natalya's friends Gentry, Shaelie, & Arica also came down. Needless to say it was a PARTY in A8! We had all our friends, a couch, love seat, a love sac, and three matresses to sleep on. We talked, ate "Better than Sex Cake", had burnt chicken "California pizza kitchen" pizza & laughed & laughed at Glozell youtube videos until finally falling asleep at 4 am. To see one of my favorites go here:

Thanks for coming guys. Just what i needed to start my semester on a high note.

1st day of Class

Well, it's official. I just finished my 1st day of my 2nd semester of college. CRAZY. 2nd semester in college? But it went well i think. Tuesdays and Thursdays are my easy days.. Only three classes so it was a good day. I think I am really going to like my interpersonal communications class. Yoga with Kels at night will be a treat. Today the toilet overflowed. Always a pleasure and a joy beyond measure when that happens. Clarissa the toilet master was in there trying to unclog and clean up the watery mess. I went in to offer my useless assistance. I could tell she was bugged by me. I started cracking jokes & she warmed up to me. Earlier in the day I had heard her and Corie plotting as to how they could get us all back for the box prank. I heard them mention hay (rude) & I knew i had to act quickly. After the toilet disaster was cleared up and Clair was going to head to her room, i stopped her and apologized for the Box prank. I told her it was just a joke and it was not meant to be rude or to be taken as a direct hit aimed at her. Clarissa's countenance immediately changed and she described that the boxes were actually a blessing in disguise because her sister is moving and therefore needs lots of boxes. Hopefully my room will stay hay free... On a happier note, i got a letter from my sweet sister Rachel in the mail. I love that little girl. Here is a picture of the letter: Look for your reply in the mail soon Rachie.

Return to Regular Life

After a much needed break, it is time to return to Ephraim. To return to the hustle and bustle of college life. I will be excited once i am there, but for now i am onry & tired. I don't want to pack up my messy room. But as a wise friend once stated multiple times, "You've gotta do what you gotta do." I'm so excited though. I am moving into Kelsey's room with her. I love that girl. We are so much alike and have the same sense of humor. We have fun together. I'm not excited to NOT have a car for a while. (it is a belated penalty for getting a speeding ticket in November) I love being independent and not having to rely on others for too many things. The whole no car thing hinders that. I'm not excited to see 2 people daily again. Bleh. If you know me you know who i am talking about. They are probably going to be unhappy with me for a little while due to a prank Skyler, Darren and I pulled before leaving Ephraim one fateful Friday evening. Here is a picture of Corie's bed boxed in with a few boxes. (we did something similar to Clarissa's) uh-oh. It was funny at the time. Now i am not so sure it was a good idea. Nevermind, it's still funny. HAHAHA

Good-byes

Saying Good-bye to a friend or family member is never a pleasant experience. However i love this quote: "Don't be dismayed at goodbyes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends." How true this is. And this quote gives me hope. Whether it be two years or like it says a lifetime, we shall see these people again that changed our lives. Tony leaves for the England MTC on Thursday. We met in his kitchen some 13 years ago, how fitting that we say goodbye in the exact same place. Tony is such an example to so many. I became so close to him Senior year (not to mention he is my Best Friend Kenzie's boyfriend...). I said goodbye to him tonight after a fun-filled game night with all our friends. He will be missed. Soon i am going to be down to next to no friends left at home!

Wrapping up Christmas Break.

Today Mom, Rachel, (a reluctant Mckay & Wade) & I went to see the movie
The Princess and the Frog.
So cute. I loved it. It reminded me of all the princess movies i loved when i was little. I loved sitting by Rachie and watching her entranced by the incredible animations swirling on the screen. After we saw the movie mom had to go to probably my least favorite destination: Archiver's Scrapbook store. The kids sat in the car for what felt like half a freezing life time but it was in reality only about 35 minutes.. but who's counting? After I went and played with future 2016 presidential candidate Kayloni Hadley (Thomas). We traveled to our favorite Utah County hot-spot YOZONE. Yum yum. After we were driving around and decided to go to the Provo Temple for a little gazing and (of course) a photo shoot. Then we traveled back to Orem for a little "good-bye Tony"/ "Happy Birthday Skyler" event at the ever popular Wingers. I love that place--Especially the Sticky Fingers. I love taking close-up, stalkerish, unflattering pictures. HAHA. man, i need help.

2010-365 Days.

It's amazing to me that it is the year 2010. Holy cow. Where has the time gone? (I'm so glad it's 2010 I hated writing 2009 on all my papers.. the "9" always looked awkward to me.) It feels like it was the year 2000 2 months ago. And now, lookaroo it is a whole new decade. It is amazing to me in so many ways where i am in life. I am so lucky. Lucky to have such a fun family who loves & supports me. Lucky to have the ability to go to Snow & have roommates who keep me laughing. Lucky to have such fun & hilarious friends who are not only incredibly funny, but make me want to become better. Lucky to have the gospel in my life. One of my goals this year is to be more like my mom and document/journal my life better. Therefore my goal is to blog something every single day. Hopefully i can get in the habit and ultimately become a better record keeper. So mom, this blog is for you.
Last night for NEW YEARS EVE I spent the first part of my night with family. We ate pizza and ate treats while playing a 2 1/2+ hour game of Monopoly. Yikes. It was fun but that game is longo bongo. Kenzie was nice enough to have a party at her house it was so fun. All of our friends were in attendance (except for those that were on missions). We talked, played games like spoons and bunko, ate yummy food and had a fun time. I love spending time with my high school friends. They are so good to me. p.s. thanks for the glasses & matching headgear mom.
